People & Planet
In 1000 Years Today: A Path to Peace a few organisations are mentioned that raise awareness and positive change for the people and the planet. The YUKA app is one example I have recently come across. (Today, I never buy a product instore without scanning it first.)
The free YUKA app (a picture of a carrot with a white background) is a mobile application that deciphers product labels and analyzes the health impact of food products and cosmetics.
The app works by scanning the barcodes of each item. The platform then rates the item and offers detailed information to help consumers understand the health of each product. Where a product is deemed to have a negative impact on the consumer's health, the app recommends a healthier alternative.
Yuka was launched in 2017 by three co-founders: brothers Benoit and Francois Martin, and friend Julie Chapon. Since then, the platform has attracted more than 10m users scanning three million barcodes every day and expanded its presence beyond France to Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Spain, and the UK.
This free app is fantastic and so easy to use. Just pick up the item instore and scan. Knowing what is inside and being able to make a valued choice helps weed out green-washing products that pretend to be something they are not.
Highly recommended. If you have other examples, please tell me.
